Week 10 Story: Old Gambling Debts

Old Gambling Debts

It's a dark and cold night on the planet of Korriban. A slight breeze whistles through the air. Dark Lord Yudhishthira walks through the crowd with his mind focused and ready to dominate. As he gets closer and closer to his destination his blood started to pulsate throughout his body. A shine started to appear on his forehead with the perspiration that was developing. He could feel his hands become clammy. Adrenaline rushed through his veins. He thought to himself that this always seemed so weird. Through his Sith training, he learned how to control his emotions and channel them into a rage. but every time he came to this place none of his training mattered anymore. It was toxic, he knew this, but still, he could not keep from coming to this place over and over again. It was a rush every time and he was addicted. He was only a few meters away now and his muscles began to tense up in anticipation for the battle that was about to happen. As he approached his destination his heart stopped.

"The starting price is 2000 credits, sir, would you like to buy in?" asked the dealer.

Yudhisthira found himself once again at the blackjack table. He'd been here plenty of times before and there was nothing like the rush he experienced when he was playing blackjack. But today he was a bit too excited. He realized that today would end badly. He knew that he had a gambling issue, but he was a Sith. The weak loan sharks could not touch him even though he was in tremendous amounts of debt. Today, there were two Jedi also playing. He noticed them from his previous adventures and it was no mistake that they were here to confront him. Thinking to himself, he cursed himself for borrowing too much money. A few weeks ago he had borrowed money from a more sketchier than normal loan shark. He did his research and knew that things could go south real quick. Hr thought he had taken the necessary precautions, but he thought wrong this time.
The game went on for some time, but no words were spoken. You could feel the tension in the air as if one sound of anything could break it and chaos would result. Finally, the Jedi spoke,
"So, Yudhisthira, I think we've had enough fun for today. You know what we have to do."
"Ah, you want to take action, but don't want to make the first attack. Typical Jedi, I will be done with you soon enough."
Suddenly Yudhisthira and the two Jedi drew their lightsabers. Yudhisthira's red lightsaber gleamed off of the chandelier crystals about with speckles of blue and green coming from the Jedi's lightsabers. Yudhisthira struck first and the battle began. The battle continued for twenty minutes. Continuous sparks of light scattered off their lightsabers with each blow. To a regular person it looked like blurrs of light were slashing and dashing through the air, barley missing each other. Yudhisthira was getting tired and knew that he needed to escape. In one last depserate attempt he force pushed the two Jedi and made a run for it. The Jedi knew he was vulnerable and knew they couldn't stop until he was captured. They quickly got back up to their feet and pursued him. They ran through the casino using their force powers to elevate their speed to unheard of levels. They finally caught up with Yudhisthria who was foolish enough to trap himself into a dead end.
"We've got you now." stated the Jedi.
"Only a Jedi would be foolish enough to think that they have trapped a Sith."
As soon as he said that the two Jedi used the rest of their force energy reserves to force blast Yudhisthira. In one striking blow they slammed him against the walll and he immediately became unconscious.
When Yudhisthira woke up he was chained to the wall and surrounded by Jedi guards. The two Jedi who captured him came into the room and began to question the Sith. After what seemed like hours of interrogation Yudhisthria was finally left alone. As he sat there all he could think about was how stupid he had been for gambling and borrowing money from the loan shark. He contemplated what he would do next and swore to himself that if he ever got out of this prison he would quit gambling for good and get revenge on the two Jedi who captured him.

Authors Note: This story was adapted from the description of Yudhisthira's gambling problem. I thought his story was interesting and wanted to add my own twist to it by writing it in the context of a Star Wars story. In the original story Yudhisthira continually gets into trouble for gambling and eventually loses eveything that he owns. Eventually he redeems himself, but for now this story focuses on his failures and love gambling without any remorse for his actions. This story establishes Yudhisthira as a Sith who is very powerful and because of his power he has abused it and borrowed more moeny than what he has. Although he has done this it does not matter to him because he knows that the person who he borrowed money from cannot over power him. It isn't until he gets to the casino that he realizes that his luck is dried up. After the insuing battle he is taken by the Jedi and put in prison. After coming to he vows to never gamble again and get his revenge.

  1. Wow! I thought your story was really cool. I am always really impressed when I read one of our classmates' stories and see that they were able to relate an Indian Epics story back to a theme. I think having a bunch of stories set in Star Wars would be a really good idea for our project or even for the rest of your stories. It would definitely help your creative juices flow!

  2. I love the character building you did with Yudhisthira, building his problems into the Star Wars universe. It's interesting how he goes from this confident and evil individual to remorseful right after being captured, I wish the personality change was either more explained or more emphasized, as it's kind of a big deal to see the main character have such a change of heart, evil Sith lord or not!

  3. Hi Casey!

To be quite honest, I totally forgot this bad habit of Yudhisthira! But I found it really cool that you wanted to focus on and expand upon his gambling downfall. I also really liked how you added a twist by making it Star Wars theme! I can only assume that Star Wars holds a special place in your interests.

  4. Hi Casey. It's funny that you wrote a Star Wars themed gambling post. I read another similar story on here from Matthey Boensch. Instead it was Lando and Han gambling for the Millenium Falcon. I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan, but I haven't seen any of the new movies like Han or Episode VIII. Personally I didn't like TFA that much and from what I heard Episode VIII was pretty bad, so I don't know if I'll go see another one in theaters. Anyways, take care!
